The mining pool pays your pasted address directly — Pasiv never holds or routes your coins. Payout timing and minimums are the pool's: Monero pays via MoneroOcean, Zephyr and Salvium via HeroMiners, each once your accrued balance passes the pool's minimum payout threshold. You can look up your address on the pool's website any time to see your pending balance.

The app is free to install and use. Pasiv's fee is 4%, taken as time-sliced mining — for 4% of mining time, shares go to Pasiv's fee address instead of yours. Paused or idle time is never charged, and the in-app fee ledger shows every slice next to the on-chain fee address so you can verify it.

Two other fees exist that aren't ours and never reach Pasiv: your pool charges its own fee, typically around 1%, under its own terms; and the XMRig engine Pasiv bundles keeps a 1% donation to its developers. We list them so nothing in your payout is a surprise.

It depends on your hardware, coin prices, network difficulty, and your electricity cost — and it changes constantly. Pasiv shows a live profitability ranking for the coins it supports, but earnings are never guaranteed and can be less than your power cost. Treat it as passive income from a machine that's on anyway, not a business plan.

An opt-in mode (the ⚡ chip) where Pasiv automatically mines whichever supported coin is most profitable for your machine right now, re-checking every 15 minutes using public price and network data. It only switches when the leader is ahead by a clear margin, and the app always shows what it picked and why. Turn it off to stay on a coin you prefer to hold.

Healthy question — the space earned it. Pasiv's builds are Developer ID-signed and Apple-notarized, updates are cryptographically verified before install, and the app is structurally non-custodial: there's no wallet inside, no place to enter a seed phrase, and your payout address is only ever sent to the mining pool you chose. Mining never starts until you press start, and Quit always stops it. The whitepaper covers the full trust model.

Mining uses your CPU, so the fans may spin up under full load. Pasiv's governor watches thermals and battery state and throttles or pauses to keep the machine healthy, and you can pause manually any time from the menu bar. If you're on battery, expect Pasiv to be conservative.

The Pearl engine needs a modern NVIDIA card (Turing or newer, ≥3 GB VRAM) and runs on the Windows/Linux builds. Macs don't have NVIDIA GPUs, so on macOS the GPU engine stays hidden — the app only ever shows what your hardware can actually run.

No. A payout address is all mining needs. Sign in with MetaMask or Phantom exists as an optional extra that proves address ownership by signing a message — it never exposes your keys and skipping it costs you nothing.

Stop: press the pearl again, or Quit from the menu-bar icon — quitting always stops mining. Uninstall: quit the app, then drag Pasiv from Applications to the Trash. Nothing keeps running afterwards, and your coins are unaffected because they were only ever at your address and your pool.

Settings → analytics toggle. Analytics are anonymous and minimal to begin with (no addresses, no autocapture, no session recording — see the privacy policy), and the toggle turns them off entirely.

Linux is live (AppImage and .deb, x86-64), alongside macOS on Apple Silicon.

Windows is built but on hold, and it's worth explaining why. Pasiv bundles XMRig to mine the RandomX coins, and XMRig is the most widely flagged mining binary there is — Microsoft Defender quarantines it as a coin miner on a default Windows machine. That is Defender working as designed: it can't tell your deliberate mining from software mining without permission, so it treats the file the same either way. A code-signing certificate wouldn't change it, because the detection is a signature match on the miner, not a question about who published the app.

We could tell you to add an antivirus exclusion. We're not going to — that's exactly what real malware asks for, and we'd rather not train anyone to do it. The proper fix is to drop the bundled miner and hash inside Pasiv's own process, which is already how the Verus engine works. Until that lands for RandomX, Windows stays off the download page. The build is still attached to each GitHub release if you want it anyway and know what you're doing.
